The Art Room Celebrates at the National Portrait Gallery with HRH The Duchess of Cambridge

To mark its 11th anniversary The Art Room hosted a reception at the National Portrait Gallery on 24th April 2013 in the presence of our Royal Patron HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. You can read more about the event here.

The London Marathon - April 21 2013

The Art Room is proud to be a beneficiary of ICAP's 20th Charity Day

ICAP Charity Day 2012 was held on Wednesday 5th December and raised £11 million worldwide, supporting 200 charities. This brings the total amount raised through ICAP Charity day, which started in 1993, to more than £100 million.

On Tuesday, 5th February, our patron of The Art Room Jenny Saville joined representatives from The Art Room at an event at 10 Downing Street for the 20th ICAP Charity Day Cheque Reception hosted by Samantha Cameron. Also attending the event was ICAP CEO Michael Spencer, other charities and supporters, along with the ICAP Charity Day team. It was a wonderful occasion to mark 20 years of ICAP Charity Day.

The London Marathon - April 22 2012

We have been extremely fortunate to be given five places in the London Marathon 2012 in April this year. As a result of The Duchess of Cambridge’s patronage we are now members of the Princes' Charities Forum and we have five runners who all ran heroically for us. You can read more about their run here.

Art Room artwork proudly put on display in special exhibition

The Art Room, at Oxford Spires Academy, was transformed into a gallery for the night as the work of students from across Oxford went on display. Exhibits by students from eight Oxford schools went on show to parents, carers, teachers, governors and supporters including The Art Room patron children's illustrator Korky Paul.

The Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award Book

For the 2012 Award, winner Alison Berrett, worked with writer Kate Clanchy on a book of work with Art Room pupils aged between 11 and 13 from Oxford Spires School. You can read more about the book here.

Duchess of Cambridge's visit to Oxford Art Rooms

The Duchess has visited two Art Rooms, in Oxford dividing her time between the Art Room based at Rose Hill Primary School and Oxford Spires Academy. You can read more about her visit here.

Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award

auction 2011The Art Room auction attracts major artists to the Halcyon Gallery

On 9 November 2011, the Art Room auctioned works by some of the most prominent artists in Britain today. Read more about one of the best and most exciting fundraising events we have ever held.

Portugal 2011

Founder Director Juli Beattie, Bel Crewe and Lara Cramsie attended the Casa de Praia Special School symposium in Lisbon. Juli, one of the key speakers, spoke at the conference about The Art Room methodology and its results. A Portuguese intern is currently working with The Art Room in Oxford with a view of starting an Art Room in Lisbon.

Bach Choral Workshop

A very successful one-day choral workshop on the Bach B minor Mass with conductor Robert Dean took place on October 1st 2011 with a full choir of 100 singers in St Margaret's Institute, Oxford. The event was organised by Leo Pitt and raised a fantastic £833 for The Art Room. We are extremely grateful to Leo and Annette Mayer, Jane Martineau and Barbara Coyne as well as all the other volunteers who helped to make the day such a success.

Outset Contemporary Art Fund

We are delighted to be one of the projects that the Outset Family programme is supporting.

The Art Room exhibited at The Dorchester Festival

Work produced by the students at The Art Room were exhibited at The Dorchester Festival in May 2011. Students at the Art Rooms decorated clocks and chairs as part of their literacy programme. They produced extraordinary puppets to be used for a puppet theatre that had been transformed from an old church harmonium. Students were thrilled to see their work displayed in Dorchester Abbey; it was a wonderful way to celebrate their success!

Please look at our Art Room products – all profits are re-invested into the charity. For example, selling one tea towel will buy us 15 coloured pencils or an Art Room Book will buy us 10 packets of stick-on googley eyes for an Art Room.

Annual report from Rose Hill Primary School

Rose Hill Primary School has been open since 2009. During this time we have been lucky enough to work with groups throughout the school, from year 1 to year 6. Each term we work with approximately 70 children.

New satellite Art Room opens in Islington

The Art Room at Robert Blair School was officially launched by Councillor Belford, Islington Council's executive member for children and young people, and the children’s illustrator Korky Paul, at a packed reception in September 2009.

The Art Room Symposium – "What Difference Does it Make?

Our first Symposium was held at St Hugh’s College, Oxford 21 October 2008, attended by 130 professionals who work with challenging and vulnerable children and young people.

Blake Lapthorn successfully completes charity challenge

Blake Lapthorn has raised in total throughout the five Legs of the campaign in excess of £8,500 for its four chosen charities of 2008, which include The Art Room.

The Art Room NESTA Symposium

The Art Room Symposium held at the magnificent new NESTA building was a great success attended by 80 professionals – including teachers, therapists, social workers, youth offending officers, mentors, artists and academics – who had an interest in the work of The Art Room.
