The Art Room is run by a small dedicated team of people working across the UK – from volunteers and practitioners, to directors and trustees. We’re also lucky to be supported by a fantastic mixture of phenomenal patrons who help support us in a wide variety of ways. Here’s an introduction to the people who make The Art Room truly magical and ensure we’re making a major difference to the lives of children who need a bit of extra support.
The Art Room practitioners are all trained in-house in the methodology and principles of The Art Room. They bring a wealth of experience, coming from fields as diverse as psychotherapy, art, teaching, drama therapy, film making and social work.
Behind the scenes
Helping The Art Room operate smoothly is a small support team, who do everything from financial management to running programmes.
The Art Room is dependent on financial support and so we are extremely grateful for the vital donations we receive from supporters, who range from individuals and corporations, to trusts and foundations. We enjoy working with individuals and organisations who share our vision for a world in which children are better supported to reach their full potential.
We’re honoured to have the support of many fantastic patrons. Our Royal Patron HRH The Duchess of Cambridge works to raise awareness of the work we do, and recently visited our Wester Hailes Art Room in Scotland. We’re also lucky to be supported by many high profile people who work hard to raise awareness of the positive, therapeutic work we’re doing to help children and young people around the UK.

The Art Room Founder, Dr Juli Beattie OBE
The Art Room was established 15 years ago by inspiring pioneer, Dr Juli Beattie OBE. Working with vulnerable children over many years, she observed how art could transform children’s confidence and self-belief.
The project started with children sitting around the kitchen table at Juli’s home. Now The Art Room is helping over 500 children a week, working in more than 40 schools in Oxfordshire, London and Edinburgh.
Juli stepped down as Founder Director in December 2016.
The Art Room is led by our Board of Trustees who make sure we use our resources in the best possible way to deliver our vision of using art as a vehicle to help children thrive.
