The London Marathon - April 22 2012
As a result of The Duchess of Cambridge’s patronage, The Art Room is now part of the Princes’ Charities Forum and through this group we were awarded five places in the London Marathon as Prince Harry is The Patron of the marathon Charitable Trust.
The weather forecast was rain, drizzle and more rain. It was a great pleasure to wake up to clear skies. As we waited on the embankment for our runners we were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm along the way. Many people from hundreds of charities were cheering on the heroes of the day, some running for the first time others who had run the marathon many times before.
- Father and son team Jeremy and Jack Palmer, who were running it for the first time.
- Hector Sants has run two London Marathons previously and set himself the task of running it in his fastest time. He did it in 3 hours 28 minutes
- Chris Boas husband of our Patron Micaela was greeted by two of his children Isabella and Carlota
- And Nick Loughran from the Press office from St James Palace also ran it in his fastest time of 3 hrs 28mins.
They raised £32,260 (and still rising) between them; this will pay for 161 Art Room sessions. And we are enormously grateful to them for raising this enormous amount.
Some have said ‘never again’ others have roped in other family members to do it next year.
The day was fantastic and we all ended up having the most delicious Sheppard’s pie at Bafta who kindly hosted a post marathon lunch.
